Right after the release of the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, AMD has decided to reduce the price of its Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards. While this graphics card debuted in November 2022 at a launch price of $899, its new recommended price has dropped to $749. It’s even more interesting that custom-designed models can already be found in the United States at an even lower price of $710.
Obviously, this price drop comes in anticipation of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER launch. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is around 10% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. That’s why this SUPER variant will go head-to-head with AMD’s graphics card, prompting AMD to adjust their prices. This confirms that without competition, no brand will feel uncomfortable with its prices.
So, will it be the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER for $799 or the Radeon RX 7900 XT for $749?
This is where the real battle lies. In favor of the Radeon RX 7900 XT is its lower price, as well as offering 20 GB of GDDR6 memory at 20 Gbps. Coupled with a 320-bit memory interface, its bandwidth is 800 GB/s – making it ideal for 4K gaming, content creation, or AI.
On the other hand, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER features 16 GB of GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps but with a 256-bit interface. This results in a bandwidth of 672 GB/s. At least this GPU doesn’t see its performance significantly impacted when Ray Tracing is added.
Both graphics cards have their own scaling and frame generation technologies, although NVIDIA’s technology is a step ahead. The interesting part is pure performance comparison. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER offers 10% more cores compared to the RTX 4070 Ti and has increased bandwidth from 192 to 256 bits.
According to leaks, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER would be about 14% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti. Consequently, it should also be more powerful than AMD’s solution, making NVIDIA’s option slightly faster but also more expensive. Based on the data, this would be the minimum recommended NVIDIA GPU for 4K gaming.
A brief summary of what AMD’s high-end GPU offers
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT features a total of 5,376 Stream Processors under the RDNA 3.0 architecture. This graphics chip is accompanied by 20 GB of GDDR6 memory and a 320-bit interface, reaching a bandwidth of 800 GB/s. This GPU offers an FP32 performance of 51.48 TFLOPs and has a TDP of 300W. NVIDIA’s model has a slight advantage in this aspect as its TDP is set at 285W.
Thus, we understand that AMD has lowered the price of its Radeon RX 7900 XT because NVIDIA is forcing their hand with the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. If they didn’t lower the price, AMD’s card would not only be less powerful than its competitor, but also much more expensive.
