PCs and consoles have advanced to the point where we can enjoy games with quite realistic graphics. Both games and multimedia content can be enjoyed more immersively with AR and VR glasses, with Apple Vision Pro being the most advanced (and expensive) in this regard. These Apple glasses seemed quite resistant according to the drop tests performed with them, but now several customers have reported that the front glass of the Vision Pro has started to crack without suffering any falls.
From Apple’s announcement of their Vision Pro in the summer of 2023 until its launch a few weeks ago, several months have passed in which people began to have overly high expectations. Thus, after the initial “hype” generated by these glasses, we have gradually seen that they are not the absolute innovation that was expected from Apple in this sector. Some people have even ended up returning their Vision Pro because, although they are an interesting peripheral, they do not see them as something that increases productivity at work or a device they use daily.
The Vision Pro is facing problems again, as the front glass cracks without any falls or impacts.
They have been described as uncomfortable or of little use due to their high price since not everyone is willing to pay $3,500 for glasses that are only used to browse the Internet and watch movies. Furthermore, it should be noted that these glasses do not have official Netflix, Spotify, or YouTube apps. Despite all this, among the various reviews of Apple Vision Pro, we were quite amazed by the resistance tests. In these tests, the glasses were subjected to various high-altitude falls, and the front glass was more resistant than other parts of the glasses, such as the side speakers.
This resistance to falls demonstrated by the front glass of the Apple Vision Pro glasses does not surprise us as much if we consider that customers are already experiencing cracks in said glass without any impact. We have found reports from several customers who are disappointed with Apple’s glasses, as they show a crack in the central part just a few weeks after purchasing them and without receiving any damage.
Repairing the glass costs $800 without AppleCare.
Complaints are coming from Reddit, where users show how the Vision Pro cracks in the central area. It is believed that Apple has experienced a “consistent manufacturing problem,” and the supposed precise manufacturing of this glass has made it very intolerant, so it can crack with little effort. Another Vision Pro customer has had a similar crack in completely different circumstances, claiming that it appeared after charging the glasses. When calling Apple to repair the front glass, the company informed customers of the bad news.
If they have not purchased their AppleCare service, the repair would cost no less than $800. If the customer had AppleCare, the price is reduced to $300, so there is no free repair. In the case of the Vision Pro, this service costs $24.99 per month or $499 if we opt for the two-year version.
