If you’re not familiar with Asgard’s Wrath 2, that’s totally normal, as it’s a game designed for Meta’s VR headsets and was released just last Friday. The game is now making headlines as it has been rated on Metacritic as the best VR game of the year. It’s also one of the highest-rated games of the year so far. On Meta’s own store, out of more than 1,300 ratings, 77% are 5-star.
Everyone knows Baldur’s Gate 3, which has won several Game of the Year (GOTY) awards. The game from Larian Studios not only won awards but also received excellent reviews. According to Metacritic, it’s the best game of the year with a score of 96 out of 100. Asgard’s Wrath 2, despite being a VR game, can proudly claim to be the 5th highest-rated game of the year on Metacritic, achieving 94 points and tying with Nintendo Witch’s Metroid Prime Remastered. The top 3 is completed by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Against the Storm.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is a visually stunning game, considering it runs on the integrated hardware of standalone VR headsets and features graphics that are even better than what you would find on a mobile device. The game is exclusive to Meta, meaning it can only be played on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, or their most advanced headset, the Meta Quest Pro.
The game was developed by Sanzaru Games, a studio acquired by Oculus Studios in February 2020. Although they had only developed four games since their founding in 2016, their titles always received good reviews. Asgard’s Wrath 1 was the game that led Facebook to acquire the studio to reinforce Oculus and its Oculus Studios division.
