ENGWE P275 Pro, bicicleta eléctrica con hasta 260 km de autonomía

We kick off the week with a review of the ENGWE P275 Pro, an electric bicycle boasting an extended range of up to 260 km. Built on an aluminum alloy chassis with 27.5-inch wheels, it features a 250W Bafang motor and five assistance modes, as well as a three-speed automatic gearbox and a carbon belt that requires no maintenance. Best of all, it’s offered at a highly competitive price, as we’ll see at the end of this review.

Before we begin the review, we’d like to thank ENGWE for their trust in El Chapuzas Informático by providing us with this product for analysis.

Packaging and Accessories

We start the ENGWE P275 Pro review with its packaging in our yard, as it’s almost impossible to handle indoors. We have a large, heavy cardboard box weighing around 30 kg, so it’s best to move it with two people.

Inside, we find the partially assembled bike fully protected by numerous foam covers. It’s a good idea to have some sturdy scissors on hand to cut the countless plastic ties that hold them, as well as a bag to collect the trash, or use the box itself.

After about 10 minutes of removing the protective covers, we find the bike partially assembled, missing the handlebar, front wheel and mudguard, pedals, saddle, kickstand and rear support.

The accessories kit includes, in addition to the assembly manual and the transformer to recharge the battery, a full set of Allen and fixed wrenches to mount all components, as well as a dual screwdriver. It also includes a mechanical bell and rear position light.

Design and Features of the ENGWE P275 Pro

After about half an hour of assembly and adjustments, we continue the ENGWE P275 Pro review with it fully ready for use. The assembly process is simple and can be completed with the included tools, but if you’re not familiar with bicycles or haven’t done anything similar before, it can be a bit more tedious and complicated. In these cases, have patience or invite a good friend to help with the assembly, rewarding them accordingly afterward. Be sure to remember that the wheels come with low pressure and need to be filled correctly before use, so you’ll need a pump, which is not included.

This electric bike offers a modern and well-developed design, far from the first generation of electric bicycles that tried to cope with the technical innovations as best they could. The black and orange color combination looks fantastic on this model, but a completely black version is available if you prefer something more discreet.

6061 aluminum alloy frame

The ENGWE P275 Pro features a 6061 aluminum alloy frame that comes in a single size, aimed at taller individuals between 175 and 200 cm in height. It can support up to 120 kg of weight, including the rider and rear load, and has a full bike weight of 27.6 kg. While this is significantly heavier than non-electrified models, the motor and battery have obvious consequences in this regard. Furthermore, it features an IPX5 protection rating, meaning it’s resistant to pressurized water jets.

250W Bafang M200 motor and up to 25 km/h

One of the strong points of the ENGWE P275 Pro is that it features a 250W Bafang M200 central-driven motor. This means it’s integrated into the pedal axle, unlike basic models that incorporate it into the rear wheel. With a power output of 250W and a torque of 65 N.m., it allows for a maximum speed of 25 km/h (the European Union limit) and promises to climb inclines with angles of up to 10º.

3-speed automatic transmission and carbon belt

The motor is connected to a three-speed automatic transmission from Bafang itself, allowing for gear changes without the rider’s interaction. Moreover, it ditches the traditional metal chain for a carbon belt to the rear wheel, which promises to require no maintenance.

However, even with the motor and automatic gearbox, we’ll still have to pedal – we mustn’t forget that this is an electric bicycle, so only pedal assistance is legally allowed.

Integrated 691.2 Wh Samsung battery and up to 260 km range

The next step in the ENGWE P275 Pro review involves addressing the integrated battery in the frame, specifically, in the rear lower arm of the frame. This allows for better weight distribution and a much cleaner aesthetic than first-generation models, which had separate batteries.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t remove the battery when parked or wanting to charge it at home. Thanks to a concealed lock, hidden under a rubber cover that also conceals the power connector, we can release it from its housing and remove it by simply pulling.

The ENGWE P275 Pro has a 691.2 Wh (36V – 19.2 Ah) Samsung lithium battery that promises an assisted pedaling range of up to 260 km in PAS 5 mode, or ECO. If using PAS 1 mode, the range reduces to 150 km, which is still an excellent value for an electric bike, although the practicality of these theoretical values is rare. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the battery’s charging time is approximately 3-8 hours, depending on the remaining charge level.

CST 27.5 * 2.4 inch wheels

We now focus on the ENGWE P275 Pro wheels. Specifically, we’re looking at 27.5-inch aluminum rims with 2.4-inch wide CST tires. They have a fairly generic, city footprint, with shallow tread.

The handlebar also has a classic, almost straight design, topped with textured rubber grips.

Tektro hydraulic brakes with 180 mm discs

Now let’s consider the ENGWE P275 Pro’s hydraulic brake system, supplied by Tektro. The brakes act directly on 180 mm discs located on the front and rear wheels, without interacting with the motor. Although not from a particularly reputable brand, this is a commendable system that guarantees excellent braking in any situation, which is always appreciated.

Bafang DP C244 controller with TFT display

Also on the handlebar is the Bafang DP C244 controller, responsible for managing pedal assistance. For this purpose, it features a TFT display showing battery charge status, current speed, which of the 5 assistance levels is active, and details such as trip distance. It also has a USB port on the right side, enabling charging of devices such as smartphones if mounted with a holder. Additionally, it incorporates buttons for turning the controller on and off, selecting the assistance mode or turning on the front light.

Front light integrated into the frame

The bicycle has a double front light integrated into the frame – ideal for night-time use. While it may not provide very bright illumination, it does ensure the rider is easily visible to other vehicles and pedestrians.

Saddle with hydraulic post

Another unique feature of this model is its saddle with hydraulic post. This allows for height adjustment of about 10 cm by simply pulling the protruding lever forward. It makes it easy to get on and off the bike, switch between a more comfortable or sporty position, and change riders with ease.

Rear support

Lastly, we’ll examine the rear support, capable of holding up to 25 kg of weight. It’s ideal for securing a backpack or even a child’s bike seat.

Don’t forget, it also includes a kickstand for stationary support.

Testing and Conclusion

We complete the ENGWE P275 Pro review with a video in which we’ll take another look at all its elements, followed by testing its strengths and weaknesses.

The ENGWE P275 Pro can be purchased from the official website for €1,861, a price that corresponds to the features it offers in a market that’s not cheap. Having the motor integrated into the pedal axle increases the design cost while significantly optimizing performance. However, in this case, its 250W output doesn’t provide a huge boost but does ensure a smooth ride in conjunction with the automatic gearbox. What perhaps stands out most is its range, truly unparalleled compared to most other models on the market.
