OnePlus announced its new flagship smartphone in China, the OnePlus 12, coinciding with the company’s 10th anniversary. However, it is not expected to reach other markets until at least January 2024.
The OnePlus 12 is very similar to other flagship devices announced at the end of the year, with most of them featuring the same hardware, and the biggest differences mainly in design. In reality, the only differentiating factor is the price.
OnePlus 12 specifications include a 6.82-inch AMOLED panel with a Quad HD+ resolution of 3,168 x 1,440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Its display is capable of reaching a maximum brightness of up to 4,500 nits. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC found in other recently launched flagship smartphones, the Qualcomm chipset can be paired with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while more affordable models offer 12GB and 16GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of the fastest available storage (UFS 4.0).
The device is powered by a generous 5,400 mAh battery capacity and features 100W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology, charging from 0 to 100% in just 26 minutes. It also supports 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
In terms of the camera, the OnePlus 12 features a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 808 main sensor, a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and up to 6x zoom without loss of quality, and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 sensor for ultrawide shots. These sensors have been optimized by Hasselblad, a Swedish camera and photography equipment manufacturer.
For cooling, the device includes a 9,140 mm2 vapor chamber and a large graphite sheet of 38,547 mm2, promising a 41% temperature improvement compared to its predecessor. Gamers will also appreciate the new “N54” magnetic engine for more powerful vibration and haptic feedback (602mm3). Additionally, the smartphone features a water and dust-resistant (IP65) chassis.
The OnePlus 12 runs on ColorOS 14 (Android 14) with Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, infrared, 5G, and a USB-C 3.2 port. As for pricing, the device will go on sale in China on December 11, with prices starting from around €560 for the 12GB/256GB model and €755 for the top-end 24GB/1TB version. Interestingly, the OnePlus 12 package includes a case and charger.
