Nubia, ZTE’s gaming division, announced its latest flagship smartphone, the REDMAGIC 9 Pro, alongside a more powerful Pro+ version. This makes it not only their top-of-the-line smartphone but also the best gaming-oriented smartphone in the world. The REDMAGIC 9 Pro boasts power, cooling, battery life, and gamer-focused features.
Both the REDMAGIC 9 Pro and Pro+ share almost all specifications, with the only difference being the battery capacity and fast charging technology. With this brief introduction, let’s take a look at what this beast has to offer.
Specifications of REDMAGIC 9 Pro and Pro+
Both REDMAGIC 9 Pro models feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution of 2,480 x 1,116 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is remarkable as the 16MP selfie camera is hidden beneath the screen, so there is no notch or hole affecting the view. The panel has a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. A fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor are also hidden under the screen.
In terms of hardware, both the REDMAGIC 9 Pro and Pro+ are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This is accompanied by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Pro+ variant offers options for 16GB or 24GB of RAM, along with up to 1TB of storage.
Both devices feature the ICE 13 cooling system, which consists of a 10,182 mm2 vapor chamber, a graphene sheet and an air duct that utilizes a fan capable of spinning at 22,000 RPM. This cooling system can reduce temperatures by up to 18°C compared to competitors.
For battery life, the REDMAGIC 9 Pro has a massive 6,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging, while the Pro+ version offers a respectable 5,500mAh battery with a remarkable 165W fast charging capability.
Camera, Connectivity and Launch Price
The REDMAGIC 9 Pro offers 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and infrared connectivity and even includes a headphone jack. As for the camera setup, there is a dual rear camera system featuring a 50MP primary Samsung GN5 sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens.
The smartphones run on REDMAGIC OS 9.0, which is based on Android 14. The most interesting aspect of these devices is their price, at least in China. The most affordable model, with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, starts at €570. The basic REDMAGIC 9 Pro+ with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage starts at €710, while the transparent chassis version goes for €735.
The top-of-the-line model with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage is priced at €900. Both devices are available in black and white color options. A review is expected soon, which will provide a hands-on look at the devices.
