NVIDIA is the most popular graphics card company for gaming, as it has surpassed AMD in sales for years and continues to do so despite its latest generation of GPUs being much more expensive. Previously, NVIDIA graphics cards were purchased for their better drivers, but now the focus is more on DLSS Frame Generation and improved Ray Tracing performance. AMD may not yet be able to reach these levels, but FSR 3 Frame Generation is increasingly featured in more games and now even works with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.
NVIDIA has been competing with AMD for many years, but one could argue that the introduction of their RTX graphics cards allowed the company to gain an even larger advantage. This was also around the time when DLSS, an AI-based scaling technology, was introduced. Although its first version did not yield impressive results, DLSS 2 allowed us to see its true potential. The idea of achieving more FPS in games with minimal impact on graphics seemed like magic, and this technology has advanced significantly since then.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone now officially support FSR 3 and Frame Generation
Today, we have DLSS 3.5 and Frame Generation in the RTX 40 series, allowing for even higher FPS and new frame generation. The issue is that this technology is limited to these specific graphics cards, which are known to be expensive. Fortunately, AMD released FSR 3 and its own Frame Generation (AFMF) a few months ago to compete with NVIDIA. Since then, we have seen more and more games becoming compatible with both FSR 3 and Frame Generation. In fact, it is possible to enable this technology in non-supported games using mods, like in The Witcher 3 and Starfield, effectively doubling the FPS.
In some cases, official support for AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) is also added to certain titles, such as now in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. The latest game patch has added FSR 3 and Frame Generation compatibility, making it easy to significantly increase FPS by adjusting graphics settings.
We can enable FSR 3 and Frame Generation with older graphics cards for higher FPS
As seen in Modern Warfare 3, the graphics settings now include five presets for AMD FSR 3. Starting with the Native mode, which doesn’t apply scaling, we have the Quality mode that offers the best resolution while increasing FPS. This mode is recommended for those with powerful GPUs who want similar quality to native resolution without compromising performance.
Next up is the Balanced mode, which strikes a balance between resolution and FPS for even better performance. Following this, the Performance mode prioritizes FPS over resolution, causing a noticeable impact on quality unless playing at high resolutions like 4K. Finally, we have the Ultra Performance mode, recommended only for those who completely ignore graphics and want the maximum possible FPS.
Frame Generation can be activated in all these modes to achieve even higher FPS. The best part is that it’s compatible with AMD RX 5000/6000 and NVIDIA RTX 20 and RTX 30 graphics cards. In fact, it can even be enabled on NVIDIA GTX 10 and AMD RX 590 cards. Besides official support in Call of Duty, compatibility is available in games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Immortals of Aveum, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Forspoken.
