Samsung sorprende con su Exynos 2400 para el S24 Ultra, ¿igual de rápido en CPU y GPU que el Snapdragon 8 Gen 3?

Samsung is one of the most important companies in the world of smartphones and, in fact, it is the most popular among Android phones. The brand offers low and mid-range models with good sales, but the high-end models, specifically the Galaxy S series, are the ones that capture our attention the most for their distinctiveness. We can finally say that the Samsung Galaxy S24 has been officially unveiled, revealing the specifications of the SoC Exynos 2400 and comparing it to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will also be available on these phones.

Just yesterday, Samsung officially introduced its Galaxy S24 lineup, which includes the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, showcasing all their features. The design change in these new smartphones was noticeable, featuring thin bezel displays and a slightly wider appearance than their predecessors. The S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. With 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it promises excellent performance. Moreover, the vapor chamber size has been almost doubled to manage temperatures efficiently.

Samsung reveals the specifications of the SoC Exynos 2400, will it be better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3?

While the Galaxy S24 Ultra garnered much attention in the high-end range, some people prefer the other models. This is where the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24+ come in, both of which will arrive in Europe with the SoC Exynos 2400. The previous Galaxy devices had abandoned Exynos chips in favor of Qualcomm, but Samsung has invested more development time in this chip. The Exynos 2400 specifications show a combination of Cortex X4, A720, and A520, along with a Samsung Xclipse 940 GPU.

Samsung has focused on AI with a 17K MAC NPU that will compete against Qualcomm’s offering. The chip also features a 5G modem for fast internet speeds, GPS, GLONASS, and other services. The display supports 4K at 120Hz or QHD+ at 144Hz, positioning it among the best in its class. The Exynos 2400 can handle cameras of up to 320 MP and supports video decoding up to 8K 60 FPS 10-bit (H.265), VP9, and AV1. Video encoding capabilities max out at 8K at 30 FPS with 10-bit (H.265) or VP9.

In terms of CPU, the Samsung Exynos 2400 is on par with or could even surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

A direct comparison of the Exynos 2400 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s specifications has been made, as both will be available in the Galaxy S24. Starting with the manufacturing node, Qualcomm opted for TSMC N4, while Samsung went with its own 4LPP+. The South Korean company takes the lead in the number of cores, with 10 cores (1+2+3+4) in the Exynos compared to Snapdragon’s 8 cores (1+3+2+2).

Both chips use the same generation of Arm Cortex cores, but there are differences in configuration and Qualcomm’s cores are slightly faster. Regarding graphics, Samsung uses the Xclipse 940 with RDNA 3, while Qualcomm relies on the tried-and-true Adreno 750. It remains to be seen if Samsung’s GPU can compete. In terms of NPU and AI performance, both are closely matched, with 44 TOPs and 45 TOPs, respectively.

Samsung surprises with its Exynos 2400 for the S24 Ultra, potentially as fast in CPU and GPU as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
