It may sound like a joke, but it’s not, especially considering the source of today’s leak. One of the best leakers in the current Apple scene has just dropped a bomb: the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have LTPS screens with only 60 Hz, something inconceivable for devices that will cost at least as much as the current models. 60 Hz in 2024? Come on Apple…
Unbelievably, another year will pass, and Apple will do it again. They will include low-end screens that other brands use and cost them very little money, especially considering Apple sells between 60 and 90 million units annually. The leak reveals the unjustifiable, but judge for yourself.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have 60 Hz LTPS screens
Yes… The iPhone 16/16 Plus has been reconfirmed to have an LTPS 60Hz display…
iPhone 16: 6.12-inch LTPS 60Hz
iPhone 16 Plus: 6.69-inch LTPS 60Hz
(Dynamic Island)
Partial improvements in display components.
iPhone 16 Pro: 6.27-inch LTPO
iPhone 16 Pro Max (Ultra): 6.86-inch…

So, Apple will repeat the strategy used with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which apparently hasn’t disappointed their users, because, aside from the problems we saw, there are no complaints. LTPS screens, or Low Temperature Polysilicon, are a type of polysilicon that is slightly better than a common LCD due to its molecular structure in the panel.
These screens are faster than regular LCDs, but the refresh rate at 60 Hz is practically outdated in the 2024 smartphone industry.
To be precise, the iPhone 16 will have a 6.12-inch LTPS 60 Hz screen, while the iPhone 16 Plus shares hertz and technology, but increases to 6.69 inches. In other words, they are identical to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in technology, refresh rate, and size.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
There are few real updates here. What we know about the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max is that they integrate screens of the same size as their standard counterparts, i.e., 6.12 inches and 6.69 inches, but with LTPO technology supporting up to 120 Hz.
Well, these two higher-end Apple models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will have LTPO screens, which we assume will be at least 120 Hz, but their size will increase to 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches.
Another leaked novelty is that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have higher quality organic M12 materials, but no significant changes are expected, as their predecessors also used M12. However, the Pro and Pro Max line will use better organic M14 materials, although it has not been revealed where they will be used.
In any case, it is outrageous that devices costing over 1,000 euros will have LTPS screens with 60 Hz, while low-end devices are already adopting 90 Hz, providing a better user experience and smoother gaming, Apple’s main target market. It’s difficult to understand why they will continue with 60 Hz in 2024…
