Following the leaks, we can now officially discuss the ROG Phone 8 Pro, ASUS’s new top-of-the-line smartphone. It is a gaming-focused device boasting a powerful SoC, an abundance of RAM, and an advanced cooling system.
The ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro has had most of its information leaked previously, and now we can confirm and expand upon it with new details related to its “revolutionary” cooling system and advanced camera.
ROG Phone 8 Pro: Main features and specifications of this gaming smartphone
Starting with the display, the ROG Phone 8 Pro boasts a 6.78-inch SAMSUNG Flexible AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels at 165 Hz. This panel can achieve a sustained brightness of 1,600 nits (HDR) and peaks of up to 2,500 nits. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The display is powered by the well-known Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which can be paired with either 24 or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, alongside 1 TB or 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. All of this is fueled by a 5,500 mAh battery with 65W Quick Charge 5.0 support. The 65W charger is thankfully included with the phone, along with a 2-meter USB-C cable.
In terms of connectivity, the ROG Phone 8 Pro offers Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, 5G with Dual SIM support, and access to all positioning systems, including BeiDou, NavIC, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS.
Photographic features, cooling system, and other information
Gaming smartphones have made significant progress in the photographic department, and the ROG Phone 8 Pro is no exception. It has a triple rear camera setup, featuring a 50MP Sony IMX890 main sensor with 2x optical zoom and a 6-axis Gimbal 3.0 optical stabilizer. Additionally, there is a 32MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and enhancements for low-light captures. Lastly, a 13MP ultra-wide 0.7x lens is in place. For selfies, there is a 32MP RGBW sensor with a 90º FOV.
As for cooling, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro features the GameCool 8 cooling system, which promises a 22% improvement in thermal efficiency. It includes a graphite sheet, a small copper heat pipe, a boron nitride shield, a large vapor chamber, and another graphite sheet behind the panel. An optional external fan can provide an additional 20% improvement, reducing temperatures by up to 36ºC.
Design-wise, the rear features a Mini-LED lighting system customizable via software through a design of 341 LEDs, allowing for personalized and even animated logos. The device also has an IP68 certification, making it water and dust-resistant.
As expected, ASUS did not mention the release date or starting price for the ROG Phone 8 Pro.
