Following the launch of the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, we now learn that their smaller siblings have been discontinued. This is not a surprise. In mid-November, reports emerged that NVIDIA had stopped manufacturing its RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti.
As leaks had already suggested, these two GPUs have been phased out due to the launch of two improved versions, which arrived yesterday at slightly lower prices. Given the saturated market, there is no room for cheaper RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti, as they would cannibalize many models. The simplest solution is to remove them from the equation and let the new models maintain their space and, of course, their price.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti have not reached a year of existence
Andreas Schilling, a hardwareluxx editor, confirmed this information. He indicated the price of the new models in a message. The GeForce RTX 4070 would drop in price while the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and GeForce RTX 4080 were discontinued. In response to a question from a well-known leaker about whether this information was official, Andreas indicated that NVIDIA directly informed him that both GPUs had been discontinued.
As a background, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti was released on January 5, 2023, at a price of $799 / €899. It has been replaced by the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, which arrived at a price of $799 / €889. On the other hand, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 was released on November 16, 2022, at a price of $1199 / €1329. It has been replaced by an RTX 4080 SUPER at a price of $999 or €1109. This way, there has been a slight adjustment in prices.
Although the information has now been confirmed, it is worth remembering that on November 16, it was already claimed from China that both GPUs would have stopped production.
Comparison of discontinued models with their SUPER variants
Below is a brief chart where you can see the changes between the GeForce RTX 4080 and its Super variant, as well as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and its SUPER variant. Now the interesting thing will be to see what happens to the current RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti. It is clear that if they don’t receive a significant price reduction, it will be difficult for NVIDIA to clear stock.
In this way, it would not be surprising to see some isolated offers in some stores. They will try to get rid of them now because, as time goes by, it will be more complicated to clear their warehouses.
