When comparing different smartphones to make a decision, we need to consider all their specifications. Processor, graphics, memory, storage, and even the camera’s sensor and lenses, as these will determine the quality instead of merely focusing on megapixels. This is the main reason the Huawei P70 Art impresses, as it incorporates a massive 1-inch sensor with its 1G6P hybrid lens, up to 5 times more expensive than the 7P version.
Years ago, Huawei was the leading brand of Android smartphones in China, selling millions of units internationally. However, sales came to an abrupt halt when the United States had a dispute with Huawei, accused it of espionage, and put the brand on the blacklist. Since then, Huawei virtually disappeared and lost the market it completely dominated, being relegated to depend on China. Despite this situation, it recently resurfaced, launching Huawei P60 devices that use a Kirin 9000S SoC manufactured with SMIC’s 7 nm node.
Huawei will launch 3 new P70 series smartphones for 2024
This was the first time in a long time that we saw Huawei regain relevance in the market. The fact that they managed to make a chip in China without depending on the United States was great news for the company because there is a hardware ban due to the Americans. Although the Huawei P60 and P60 Pro launch went very well in terms of sales in China, these are expensive models, with the P60 Pro starting at 1,199 euros (999 euros with Cyber Monday discounts).
Although the P60s are recent devices, leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has announced updates on their successors. The Huawei P70 series will include a total of 3 models for 2024: the P70, P70 Pro, and P70 Art. The P70 Art is the most attention-grabbing, as it will receive the best cameras with a lens 5 times more expensive. This is due to the manufacturing process using molded glass, which will be much more costly to produce.
The P70 Art will have the best camera of all, with a 1-inch sensor for the wide-angle camera
The P70 Art will have a 1/1 sensor, meaning it will have a 1-inch size sensor for the ultra-wide-angle camera and will use a 1G6P lens (1 layer of glass and 6 layers of plastic). The P70 Art’s main camera is expected to use a 6P lens and feature a 1/2″ sensor, while the P70 Pro will be reduced to 1/2.5″, and the standard P70 will have a 5P lens (1/3.6″).
Aside from the camera and lenses, the rest of the specifications are unknown, so it is unclear whether Huawei will reuse the Kirin 9000S or develop a new SoC. On the other hand, Huawei P70 smartphones are predicted to achieve sales 230% higher than the P60 series. Thus, the P70, P70 Pro, and P70 Art are expected to reach up to 15 million units shipped, selling more both in China and the international market.
