An increasing number of people are switching to Apple with iOS and their iPhones. Furthermore, iPhone users tend to update their devices frequently, not necessarily because they are malfunctioning or outdated. Apple manages to generate a lot of interest with the launch of each new generation. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, which will not be released until 2025, is set to be the first Apple phone with three 48-megapixel cameras, including a telephoto lens.
Recently, Apple introduced its iPhone 15 lineup, and once again, the Pro and Pro Max models brought many new features. They included a new A17 Pro processor, an improved screen, and enhanced cameras, with the Pro Max notably outperforming the rest. This was due to the use of a periscopic camera that allowed for up to 5x optical zoom. Apple has made few changes to these lenses so far, but future phone models will focus on improving them.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature a 48 MP wide-angle lens
Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, claims that future iPhone generations will receive upgrades in the photography and video sectors. This is because the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be the first to have 48 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras, which are significantly better than current models. It’s worth noting that the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max uses a rear main camera configuration of 48 MP, a 12 MP wide-angle camera, and a 12 MP telephoto lens.
Thus, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have two of its cameras (or rather lenses) at 48 megapixels, which may not guarantee better results but should offer higher resolution and sharpness. It’s important not to focus solely on the number of megapixels to determine the quality of a camera since there are Android smartphones with 200 MP cameras that ultimately do not deliver impressive results.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max will enhance the telephoto lens with 48 megapixels
While the iPhone 16 Pro models will feature improved lenses, their successors will bring even more enhancements. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, set to arrive in 2025, will boast a total of three 48-megapixel cameras, including a primary, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto lens. This will be the first iPhone with this configuration, as Apple tends to be conservative in certain specifications. As a reminder, iPhones had very little RAM when Android began implementing multiple gigabytes, and it wasn’t until much later that iPhones had more memory.
In the case of RAM, this was because iOS consumed much less than Android and did not require as much memory. However, now the iPhone 15 Pro and its 8 GB of RAM are on par with other Android devices. It seems that the increase in camera megapixels will follow a similar trend, as people may find the 12 MP of some Android phones insufficient when comparing devices. As mentioned earlier, more megapixels do not necessarily equal better quality, and in reality, current iPhones or models from a few years ago remain some of the best for capturing photos and videos. As a final note, the new iPhone 17 Pro Max camera will be optimized for Vision Pro glasses, set to be released in 2024.
