Lenovo reinventa la movilidad con su ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid: tablet, portátil y monitor independientes, con Windows 11 ¡y también Android!

In the past, if we wanted a gaming laptop, we had to carry around devices that weighed 4 kg or even more and were quite thick. Nowadays, we can achieve the same or better performance with very thin and light laptops, although the TDP is limited. On the other hand, we have seen the emergence of convertible laptops into tablets, which makes them useful for certain tasks and users. Lenovo has thus introduced its ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, a laptop that can be separated and function as a tablet, featuring both Windows 11 on the laptop hardware and Android 13 on the tablet-like screen.

Laptops are generally designed to work on the go, anywhere and anytime we have a table or even on our laps. This portability provides a significant advantage over desktop PCs, and while gaming laptops are quite popular, most people use them for office tasks, studying, or work. If we take our laptops to university, for example, to take notes, we might wish for more functionality. Writing quickly on the keyboard is a given, but we may miss the ability to highlight and add annotations as we would on paper.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid laptop has a Windows 11 base, Meteor Lake processor, and 32GB of RAM

With Android tablets, this is possible since we have touchscreens and can buy a stylus for added precision. Thus, taking notes and making annotations or drawings to aid with these tasks is highly appreciated. Now it is possible to have the best of both worlds, as Lenovo has unveiled its convertible ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid at CES 2024, featuring both Windows 11 and Android.

This device is quite unique as it has Windows 11 on the hardware of the chassis (Hybrid Station), housing an Intel Meteor Lake processor (configurable up to a Core Ultra 7), up to 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 75Wh battery. With these specs, we can say that we have a very capable laptop, and with Intel’s latest integrated graphics, it performs quite well. This chassis features Windows 11, dimensions measuring 313.5mm x 234.5mm x 9.4mm, weighs 970 grams, and includes 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.

The 14-inch screen acts as a tablet with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and 12GB of RAM

Having covered the laptop part of this ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, it is time to discuss the tablet aspect. This convertible laptop’s screen separates and operates independently, known as the Hybrid Tab. It features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Unlike the laptop running Windows 11, the tablet uses Android 13 and comes equipped with a stylus.

The tablet has a 14-inch screen with a 2.8K resolution and a built-in 38Wh battery. It is larger and heavier than other tablets, weighing in at 785 grams, but serves a dual purpose as both a laptop display and a standalone tablet. Furthermore, Lenovo has stated that the Hybrid Station can be used as a keyboard for the large tablet without using the Intel processor or Windows, simply functioning as a peripheral. This concept is interesting, but more information won’t be available until the second quarter of 2024.
