We can now get to know MSI’s new high-end gaming laptop, the Titan 18 HX. This device not only boasts impressive performance capability but also claims to be the first-of-its-kind. It features a striking Mini LED panel produced by the well-known Taiwanese company AUO Corporation (AUO).
As expected, the MSI Titan 18 HX utilizes the most powerful hardware from Intel and NVIDIA. Furthermore, it may have one of the best panels ever seen in a laptop. It will also function as a workstation, capable of supporting up to 192 GB of RAM. Now that we’ve briefly introduced it, let’s dive deeper into its features.
The Mini LED panel incorporated in the MSI Titan 18 HX
MSI emphasizes the Mini LED panel of their Titan 18 HX, and we will do the same. This AUO-made Mini LED panel boasts an impressive 18-inch size. In terms of resolution, it flaunts a native 4K at 3840 x 2160 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate, which won’t be easily outperformed. The panel has a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and can dazzle you with a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, accompanied by VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification.
Continuing with panel information, it is capable of covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. It is calibrated using MSI’s True Color technology and has a response time of 3 milliseconds in overdrive mode, which speeds up color changes and minimizes pixel switching time to reduce motion blur. However, this may introduce unwanted visual artifacts such as halos around moving objects or ghosting. This is all the official panel information we have.
And this is the hardware that takes advantage of the 4K at 120 Hz
To drive the panel as close as possible to the 120 Hz, the MSI Titan 18 HX uses an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor with 24 cores and 32 processing threads (8x P-Core + 16x E-Core). This CPU is paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile, which has 9,728 CUDA Cores and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. In practice, it is comparable to a desktop GeForce RTX 3080.
This hardware can be combined with up to 192 GB of DDR5 RAM at 5,600 MHz (4x 48 GB). Additionally, users can opt for a RAID setup with 2x 2 TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Naturally, the laptop is somewhat thicker than conventional models, with a heavier weight and higher energy consumption. As a result, its external power supply may also be heavy. It also offers RGB LED lighting. The most crucial detail, the price, has not been disclosed. However, don’t be surprised if it costs more than 5,000 euros.
The MSI Titan 18 HX, the first laptop featuring an 18-inch Mini LED 4K at 120 Hz panel, is breaking new ground in the gaming world.
